Question:What makes a bad society?
Answer:
Hi Antonio thank you for this question. A lot of things make society bad. Greed, envy and trying to get power.
I am a choice theory therapist. We have five basic needs. They are survival, power, fun, love and belonging and freedom. We are born with one need and the rest are psychology. We are born with a survival need. For this we need food, shelter, clothes, money, sex.
Power but this is the power need to achieve, not power over others. Its power within us. Then I also think power with. So power within us to achieve and power with others to help and support them towards meeting their power need to achieve. So power over others does not have a place.
I think power over others is a disaster. If society had power with others and used power within then power over wouldn't matter. We wouldn't be competitive. But we use our power need in the wrong way. When we are not meeting our power within and power with, then we can become aggressive, resentful and competitive. If you think about the tough guy in school that is not achieving and living in a home where power over is being used. Then this may be what is wrong with him.
If his class students and teachers understood him and used power with to ignite his power within to achieve to his best ability (no matter what his ability is even if he is lower on the academic scale it doesn't matter its his best). Then he will feel like he has met this need and won't feel the need to have power over anyone. This would benefit him as he goes through his life and have a knock on effect to his children. Then it's past through generations if this was a way that we adopted. No control over others and no power over.
