Question:Why is Johnny Depp still being blacklisted in Hollywood despite public opinion being strongly supportive of him?
Answer:People will say that his films were making less and less money, which is true. But there wouldn’t have been the sudden change that occurred. Plus it’s certainly possible that he would have found his stride again in roles more suited to his age and his current experience.
The so-called blacklist, which may not be a blacklist literally but is effectively one, involves his being cut from films he was already set to star in and which were even costly for the studios to get out of. And he hasn’t gotten the kind of steady offers he used to. He’s gotten hardly any that we know about. So if he’s getting offers they aren’t offers of the stature that he’d previously gotten.
Not to mention, even if Captain Sparrow’s star is waning, I find it hard to believe that Jack wouldn’t have made some more appearances. That was his franchise, like it or not. There was nothing, at least for me, very interesting about those movies without that character the way he played it.
So what is going on? Why is it that even with the kind of support that’s growing FOR him he isn’t getting the kind of roles he should?
Controversy, the kind of controversy he’s gotten embroiled in, isn’t good for business. Believe it or not there are a lot of people who “support” Amber “Sewer Rat” Heard. They think she was actually an innocent little flower, battered by her evil husband Johnny.
No one wants to invest huge amounts of money in that kind of backstory. It’s just not how people with that kind of money to invest want to start their projects. There are plenty of people that could be mobilized to boycott any movie he’s in and the loss in ticket sales can’t be made up by his supporters.
